We know the different types of hay can be confusing, from 2nd cutting Timothy hay to alfalfa hay and everywhere in between! Below, you’ll find all of the types of hay we offer. Hay is categorized by its uses, amount of stem and leaf, and levels of protein, fiber, and fat.

1ST CUTTING TIMOTHY HAY
USES: Animals with chronic GI issues or teeth that need to be worn down, animals who need to lose weight.
DESCRIPTION: High in stem, low in leaf.
FIBER: High
PROTEIN: Low
FAT: Low

2ND CUTTING TIMOTHY HAY
USES: Gold standard for healthy adult small animals. Perfect ratio of nutrients for maintenance.
DESCRIPTION: Flexible stem with medium leaf.
FIBER: Standard
PROTEIN: Standard
FAT: Standard

3RD CUTTING TIMOTHY HAY
USES: Perfect for animals suffering mouth pain, or animals who need to gain some weight.  
DESCRIPTION: Typically brownish in color but very palatable to rabbits.
FIBER: Low
PROTEIN: High
FAT: High

OAT HAY
USES: The distinct taste makes this a treat hay for most rabbits. Good for adult animals who need extra fiber but don't like 1st cutting Timothy.  
DESCRIPTION: Yellowish in color, stemmy, with some oats attached.
FIBER: High
PROTEIN: High
FAT: High

ALFALFA HAY
USES: Use as treat to add interest to regular diet. This is also the hay young animals (under 1 year) need for healthy growth to adulthood.
DESCRIPTION: Rich dense hay, lots of small leaf.
FIBER: High
PROTEIN: High
FAT: High

ORCHARD HAY
USES: Excellent hay to encourage hay eating, and often a terrific solution for people with allergies to Timothy hay.
DESCRIPTION: Similar to 2nd cutting Timothy, but slightly different smell and broader leaves.
