Corn syrup's major uses are as a thickener, a sweetener, and as a humectant – an ingredient that retains moisture and maintains food's freshness. Corn syrup is the primary ingredient in most brands of commercial "pancake syrup", and can be a less expensive substitute for maple syrup. 

Corn syrup is used in baked goods, jams and jellies, and many other food products. It can be used also as a cheap sweetener for milk tea and milkshakes.
