What is Parvovirus and Distemper?
Canine Parvo and distemper both viral diseases that can affect our doggy family members. While they share a viral cause, and immunity is often administered in the same vaccine, they are very different diseases.

DISTEMPER VIRUS
Also known as Canine Distemper Virus (CDV)
A highly contagious disease that affect dogs respiratory, gastrointestinal and neurological system as well as the membranes of the eyes.
SOURCE OF INFECTION
In contact with susceptible dogs and infected dogs.
SYMPTOMS
Common sign are fever and fluid discharge from the eyes and nose.
Respiratory ; sneezing, coughing, difficulty breathing, nasal discharge and pneumonia.
Gastrointestinal ; anorexia, vomiting amd diarrhea.
Neurological ; Seizures and tremors.
PREVENTION AND TREATMENT
There is no specific treatment for distemper.
The key to recovery should be general nursing care and preventative measure to control other bacterial and viral infections.
All dogs develop a protective immune response once vaccinated.
