PLANT DESCRIPTION: Item description from the seller New Live plant (NOT SEEDS or Cuttings) Variegated Spiral Ginger Cultivar: Foster Variegated COMMON NAME: Variegated Crepe Ginger Cheilocostus speciosus 'Variegata' Family: Costaceae (spiral gingers family) Species synonym: Costus speciosus (old name)  With great reddish cones and stems, Variegated Spiral Ginger produces spectacular "crepe-like" flowers on the sweeping spiral architecture of this plant. The upright spiraling stems grow 5 to 7 feet tall with the  dark maroon terminal cones with white crepe flowers. Cheilocostus speciosus has reed like stems spiraling with green leaves, are shorter but much wider, underside of foliage are hairy.       Variegated Spiral Ginger can grow 8-10 foot tall and wide in a single season and flowers start forming on the tips of the canes by early summer. As the canes reach their mature height, a reddish cluster of bracts forms on the tip. Red cone buds quickly develop and the bracts secrete a sugary substance that is well-liked by ants. Even after the flowers have finished, the remaining red bracts provide long-lasting color into the fall. The plant grows best with at least half a day of full sun.    A beautiful ginger plant with attractive foliage producing plastic red cone-shaped terminal flowers on red stems. The undersides of the oval leaves are a darker green that is retained even when the leaves are mature. The unusual inflorescence is a waxy red color popping with showy white crepe flowers.         Spiral Ginger prefers a sheltered position and requires rich, and moist to wet soil and regular fertilizing. Prefers Med to full sun.       Great landscaping plant. Attractive in the garden and as an exotic cut flower. Fantastic attractive green leaves with darker undersides. The leaves are spirally arranged around the stem, forming attractive, arching clumps arising from underground rootstocks. The maximum height of these plants is about 2-3 feet. It also flowers during the warm months. And they appear to be cone-like heads at the tips of branches. PLEASE READ !!!
