From the composer, Nikko Oliver Villanueva -- This book is a collection of my compositions and arrangements for the holy mass since the beginning of 2013. Throughout those years of making music, I must say that it is indeed a long journey but a fruitful and fulfilling one. One of my objectives while writing the music is to keep the melodies simple yet harmonious, thereby instilling Don Bosco’s youthful spirit in the songs. This book also features a meaningful communion song of the same title taken from the Salesian motto: “Da mihi animas, caetera tolle” which means “Give me souls, take away the rest” and a Prayer to St. John Bosco, with lyrics written by Mr. Mervil Jilo Merjudio. As Don Bosco once said, “A house without music is like a body without a soul.” Thus, this book aims to encourage the people to sing especially the mass responses, to actively participate in the liturgy as one community, to fully express their faith in God, and to inspire them to be closer to God through music.
