Pharmacology: Pharmacodynamics: The potent insecticidal action of permethrin arises from repeated depolarization of the neurons and leads to a reduction in neuronal excitability causing sensory hyperexcitability, incoordination, prostration, paralysis and eventual death. Pharmacokinetics: Permethrin is not rapidly absorbed transdermally and that the extent of systemic exposure is very low. Plasma concentrations of permethrin are undetectable. The small amount of permethrin that is absorbed is rapidly metabolized and excreted. Distribution of the drug into major body tissues is not of great concern.
