Located above the Breede River on Northwest facing slopes of the Brandwacht Mountains is the Olifantsberg Family Vineyards. You will find out right outside Worcester on the Ceres Road. The farm was bought in 2003 and all that grew were two small vineyards of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. 2004 saw the first production of wine under the Olifantsberg label in the winery of a wine cooperative. The estate has an annual harvest of 25 tons and the focus is on quality with a low yield of grapes to concentrate the flavour of the wines. More vines have been planted on the farm and include Shiraz, Chardonnay, Pinotage and Chenin Blanc. Only 5 hectares are under vines and when adding blocks to their estate, they’ll plant cultivars which are heat, drought and wind resistant which are important in the Breedekloof region. This handcrafted wine is based on Syrah with small additions of our bush vine Grenache, Carignan and Mourvèdre. Natural fermentation took place in open top fermenters. Maturation took place in French oak foudres and barrels for a further 10 months. Fruit were sourced from our farm in the Breedekloof and some Syrah from the Swartland region. Fresh, pure fruit are complemented by beautiful perfume, a balanced pallet and elegant finish. Blend information 95.9% Syrah 2.1% Grenache Noir 1.5% Carignan 0.50% Mourvèdre
