Facts about Shirataki: What Are Shirataki Noodles Made of? Shirataki noodles come from a yam-like tuber called Devil's Tongue. Glucomannan starch is extracted from the tubers, then mixed with water and limewater to turn it into a substance called konnyaku. Konnyaku is then shredded into traditional shirataki noodles. Sometimes other ingredients are added into shirataki noodles, like soy, and you'll see them labeled tofu or with other flavors. Why Don't Shirataki Noodles Contain Any Calories? Traditional shirataki noodles are pretty much the perfect food for those who may have food allergies or are on special diets; they're vegan and gluten-free. They naturally don't contain any calories because the glucomannan starch they're made of is an indigestible dietary fiber and also contains no carbohydrates. How to Cook Shirataki Noodles? 1. Open packet and drain liquid over strainer. (Fishy smell is normal as this is the brine used to preserve the noodles). 2. Rinse noodles to get rid of the smell. 3. Add to soup / stock for noodles soups. 4. To use as pasta / dry noodle dish: Toss drained noodles in dry pan (no oil) over medium heat. This step is optional, but it dries out the excess water from rinsing the noodles, allowing it to absorb more flavor. 5. Toss in sauce and other ingredients. Bonus tip: para sa mga nagdidiet na wala oras magluto. Replace the noodles in instant noodles with Shirataki noodleals, and mix flavoring as instructed. This instantly cuts calories by more than half. #shirataki #shiratakinoodles #miraclenoodles #dietfood #healthy #lowcarb #carbfree #sugarfree #glutenfree #lowcalorie #zerocalorie #lowfat #fatfree #diet #ketodiet #weightloss #konjacnoodles #konjac
