Product Description

Applications: Soapmaking, drain cleaner, acid neutralizer, chemical reagent, paper making, degreaser, swimming pool treatment, desiccant, aluminum etchant, glass etchant. CAS: 1310-73-2 Chemical Formula: NaOH Other Names: Caustic Soda, Lye Molecular Weight: 40.00 g/mol Storage: Keep container tightly closed. Keep container in a cool, well-ventilated area. Hygroscopic. Deliquescent. Precautions: Product is a strong alkali (caustic) and may cause burns to eyes and skin. Use protective gear and extreme caution. This product, when dissolved in water, generates a lot of heat. Use extreme caution when adding product to water. Always add product to water never add water to product. Always use cold water (adding product to hot water may cause it to boil and splatter). Keep product tightly sealed in its original container. Product is a strong desiccant and will absorb enough moisture from the air to dissolve itself and become liquid. Product reacts strongly with metals containing aluminum and produces hydrogen gas. First Aid: In case of eye contact. quickly brush off excess chemical from the face. Immediately flush with large amounts of water for at least 30 minutes, lifting upper and lower lids. Remove contact lenses, if worn, while flushing. Seek medical attention immediately. In case of skin contact, quickly remove contaminated clothing. Immediately blot or brush off excess chemical and wash gently with large amounts water for at least 30 minutes. Seek medical attention immediately. In case of inhalation, remove the person from exposure. Begin rescue breathing (using universal precautions) if breathing has stopped and CPR if heart action has stopped. Transfer promptly to a medical facility. Medical observation is recommended for 24 to 48 hours after overexposure, as pulmonary edema may be delayed. NOTE: Please be sure to educate yourself on the safety precautions and proper handling of sodium hydroxide before using this ingredient. Sodium hydroxide may cause severe burns and eye damage if improperly handled. Do not breathe dust, fume, gas, mist, vapors, or spray. Ensure adequate ventilation. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing, eye protection, and face protection when handling item. Thoroughly wash face, hands and any exposed skin after handling. Keep away from incompatibles such as oxidizing agents, reducing agents, metals, acids, and alkalis. Expect significant release of heat upon dissolution in water. Keep container tightly sealed and locked-up, away from children. Keep container in a cool, well-ventilated area. Item is hygroscopic and deliquescent.
