Located in the ancestral home of the Lanutans in Canbanua, Argao in the province of Cebu, Guilang’s tableya business started off with one ganta of Argao native cacao beans sourced from a farmer in Mt. Lantoy.
Guilang’s youngest son Edgar Lanutan, who now oversees the family’s tableya making business, shared that her mother learned about tableya making from her aunt who worked as a tableya maker in T. Padilla Street in Cebu City.
To produce the tableya, the cacao beans are roasted until the skin loosens, after which the skin is separated through winnowing. The seeds are then placed in a mechanical grinder to achieve that soft and smooth texture and paste-like consistency. The grounded cacao is then molded by hand into chocolate tablets. The Woman Behind Guilang Tableya
Miguela "Guilang" Lanutan
In 1948, Guilang Lanutan humbly started the tableya making business with capital for only one ganta of native Argao cacao. She stood out among other tableya makers through constant experimentation in her recipe and processes.
In the 1970's, Guilang's Tableya caught the attentiom of a Swiss guest in Argao Beach Club. The Swiss visitor then introduced himself asnan executive of a Swiss Chocolate Giant, making precious suggestions on how to achieve the fine tableya we experience today.
Today, Guilang's Tableya continues to give us not only a taste of pure cacao, but of pure Arfaoanon culture as well.

Each detachable tablet of Guilang Tableya is individually shaped through the finger drop process. The Cacao beans are carefully High Roasted, giving Guilang Tableya its delectable rich aroma.
I really don't know what else more I have to say. This is our personal favorite tableya. It is the best tableya we have tasted in our entire lives. No imported cocoa chocolate could top the tsokolate taste this Guilang Tableya could give.
This is a must try to any chocolate lover.
